Mayor Boris Johnson in show of support for Conservative Friends of the Chinese

The Conservative Friends of the Chinese (CFOC) held its inaugural reception last night in the City of London at an international law firm on 21st May 2013. To celebrate the establishment of the CFOC as a national group fully affiliated to the Conservative Party, the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Conservative Party David Cameron also sent a personal message. photo-4

Showcasing the importance of the Group and the British Chinese community to the Conservative Party, the event was extremely well attended by prominent members of the Conservative Party including the guest speaker Mayor Boris Johnson, the Parliamentary Chair of CFOC Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP, Chair of CFOC Lord Wei of Shoreditch, Lord Ashcroft, Lord Dobbs, Lord Bates, Andrew Mitchell MP and Mark Pritchard MP.

Other prominent attendees included the guest speaker Minister Cong Peiwu from the Chinese Embassy and the Chinese celebrity Annie Yi who attended as a special guest.

CFOC’s approach to actively engaging with its supoorters meant that the event was over-subscribed with over 170 attendees ranging from university students, young professionals, grassroots activists, community leaders, Conservative Party staff to business representatives engaged in promoting trade and investment between UK and China.

CFOC is a member-led organisation that champions and promotes the values and culture of the British Chinese communities and helps to establish stronger links for these communities within the Conservative Party. The CFOC also have several other aims including advocating closer relations and understanding between Britain and China.
