Makala Cheung is a passionate and multi-cultured Singer, Songwriter and Producer from Knowle West, Bristol, UK.

The British Chinese star makes Electronic Pop with a Chinese twist, stemming from her mixed heritage. The World Fusion she creates, with unmistakably Bristolian urban influence, is the musical embodiment of her self, making her music as genuinely unique as she is. Frequently referred to as reminiscent of Kate Bush, Cheung is also a Culture Ambassador (West of England China Bureau), Bristol Woman cover girl (launch edition) and one of Bristol’s first Happiness Champions.

“Singer-Songwriter Makala Cheung flies the flag for both Bristol and China with pride, as she combines both traditional and electronic sounds to create some quite distinctive pop…Makala always makes sure her unique attitude shines through.” – Loki Lillistone, Editor, Bristol Live Magazine

Her third album ‘Empress’ (successfully crowdfunded after an inspiring campaign) will be released and launched at the O2 Academy Bristol on 1st of October 2017, as part of Cheungs’ second Mini Moon Festival, in honour of the Chinese Mid-Autumn festival celebrating the moon, harvest, family and friendship.

This event is where the ‘Far East meets the West’ – with musicians, martial artists, dancers and stalls featuring an authentic blend of Western and East Asian culture. A true fusion event showcasing the top talent from the South West, Birmingham and London, with special headline act Fifi Rong closing the day. The festival is backed by the Bristol & West of England China Bureau, along with additional support from local Bristol businesses such as Doveton Press, Jelli Records and Life & Soul Communications. Full lineup and details can be found at Cheung Island.

“Great day of entertainment for the whole family and something you will not get to see anywhere else. A must on the calendar”
