Jersey’s The Club Hotel & Spa for Chinese visitors

St Helier

The Channel Islands: Jersey is a Crown Dependency, so Chinese nationals don’t require a visa if they are already in the UK! Is it any wonder that Jersey’s tourism industry is experiencing a boom. After much deliberation my partner and I agree on staying at The Club Hotel & Spa. We did so as it is based in Jersey’s picturesque capital, Saint Helier, in addition to it being so central to everything.

The location couldn’t be anymore ideal.

The Club Hotel & Spa

The ambiance at The Club Hotel & Spa is truly wonderful. I extend my sincere gratitude to overly-friendly staff members who carry our luggage to our bedroom. The bedroom decor is European-styled, immaculate and very-comfortable. Nothing could be faulted. The bathroom is opulent with its grand toilet and power shower. The bathroom tiles were crystal clear that I can see my facial reflection. I notice the splendid floor-to-ceiling windows which permit natural light.

My partner is pleasantly surprised at the room’s cleanliness. Not a spot of dirt or dust. Even the kettle had been polished. For a moment I ponder hardly of any hotel which has been cleaner. I fail to think of one. Little touches such as lights being dimmed with shortbread and water being placed by the bedside table for the turn down service, really made the stay special.

Having freshened up and relaxed we dine in the famous Michelin starred Bohemia Bar and restaurant located on the street level of the hotel. Its Head Chef, Steve Smith, won the prestigious Michelin star at the tender age of 24, in addition to a plethora of other catering achievements. Rather impressive, I thought. For a split second I recall a local telling us that Bohemia’s gourmet dining “is out of this world”.

The style of serving is impeccable. I also admire the many unusual design elements that surround us. I chose the Pescatarian Fish Menu and my partner opted for the Tasting Menu, which both cost £75 person and was worth every penny. Each dish had been skilfully prepared and delightfully presented, we enjoyed courses such as Foie Gras Cream with Sea Buckthorn Orange and Duck Salad and Sea Bass, Langoustine. This was all washed down by a couple of bottles of the finest wines which the management had selected.

A waiter informed us that the restaurant had been judged to be the 21st best UK restaurant. I question this position; it should be ranked in the top 10.

After dinner we enjoyed a wonderful and blissful night’s sleep at The Club Hotel & Spa. The next day I decide to get some work done before we set off on our exploration. It dawns on me that the more I see of this magnificent hotel, the greater likelihood my work will be neglected. I manage to complete two hours’ of uninterrupted work in the Small Library. My partner grows impatient. I acquiesce to visiting the undiscovered treasures of this island.

Much to erroneous beliefs Jersey is separate from the UK and not a member of the EU. In fact the island belongs to the British crown. Much of its wealth is created in the financial and tourism industries. Thus it was rather fitting that our first stop was at the long-awaited beach. The view was magnum opus. My partner couldn’t believe how close by the hotel is situated to many pretty places on the island. We visited St Brelade’s Bay and Beauport, both were a state of tranquility. This island is a total gem!

After a eventful time, we retreated back to sample the hotel’s classic afternoon tea for two, with a glass of champagne and some Earl Grey. The sandwiches were delicious and the cream cakes melted in your mouth. The strawberry fruit tart was wrapped in edible gold leaves, a must try.

Afterward, my partner and I treat ourselves to a much-needed beauty makeover at the hotel’s spa facility. I had the gentlemen’s facial, a 50 minute relaxing cleansing of the face and neck. It was so relaxing I could have fallen asleep there. My partner had a aromatic fusion full body massage which was expertly conducted, fusing the best practices of East and West. Then we had a swim and relaxed in the salt cabin and herbal steam room.

Soon afterward we head to the hotel’s bar for some more snacks. In no time at all we are hurriedly shown to our comfortable seats and presented with a wine list. The style of service is exceptional. I joke to my partner: “I’m being perfectly honest in saying we need a glass of red.” We spend an £50 on a refreshing bottle.

Tonight is our last. Much will be genuinely missed when we depart. This hotel is to be highly recommended, a hotel in its own class.
