Award-winning pianist Belle Chen releases her highly anticipated classical concept album Mediterranean Sounds on September 8th 2016.
Handpicked by Brian Eno as the one to watch, pianist Belle Chen has distinguished herself with her unique recorded works that are unbound by tradition- often mixing classical music repertoire with recorded soundscapes. Her creativity was celebrated through winning the classical music category of 2015 London Music Awards.
In Mediterranean Sounds, Chen draws inspiration for its construct from concept albums of iconic artists such as Marvin Gaye and Frank Zappa. From the charming French seaside to exotic spice markets in Istanbul, Chen takes the listeners on a journey through a kaleidoscopic array of works by Spanish, French, Italian, and Turkish composers, interweaved with colourful soundscapes mixed from on-location field recordings.
“I love classical piano repertoire, I love exploring, and I love travelling. This album combines all three of my great loves, and the result is a freeze-frame of the vibrant cultures and sounds from around the Mediterranean, concentrated into time-capsules and delivered to the listener.” Chen says.
Chen celebrates the release of her new album with a London launch performance at Royal Over-Seas League on 8th September, where she recreates a scented live experience of the great Mediterranean journey with an exciting line-up of guest artists and perfumer.
