Bristol Museum & Art Gallery 21-22 February
Herd up your friends and family and flock to Bristol Museum & Art Gallery for Chinese New Year on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 February 2015.
Bristol Museum & Art Gallery will be celebrating the Year of the Sheep in style with a fantastic programme rammed full of exciting things to see and do across the weekend. Visitors will be treated to spectacular dancing dragon and lion performances, martial arts, traditional Chinese dances, storytelling, family trails, arts and craft activities, live music, and much more.
The two-day event will be opened by Lord Mayor of Bristol; Alastair Watson on Saturday. Swiftly after, visitors will enjoy traditional performances including a fan and handkerchief dance to welcome in good luck.
Laura Pye, Head of Bristol Culture at Bristol City Council said:
“This event is a real team effort and is made possible thanks to the groups, organisations and individuals from in and around Bristol that help us to showcase Chinese culture. “
Around the museum there will be a sheep trail with rooms of Chinese culture to explore, including mask-making, tea-tasting, calligraphy, paper folding, massage and tours of the Museum’s magnificent Eastern Art collection.
There will also be tours of the ground-breaking Ahead of the Curve: New china from China exhibition. Direct from China, Ahead of the Curve showcases contemporary ceramics and glass from over twenty emerging and established Chinese artists.
The Year of the Sheep starts on 19 February 2015 and continues until 7 February 2016. According to the Chinese Zodiac, people born in the Year of the Sheep are loyal and just, highly creative as well as generous and kind.
