British Chinese actor David Yip to host talk at Asia House

Asia House will be hosting a talk with British Chinese actor David Yip, best known for his leading role in the British TV series The Chinese Detective (1981-1982). David has also starred in a number of Hollywood films including Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and James Bond: A View to Kill.  More recently he has appeared in a number of BBC Radio 4 dramas including Inspector Chen (2015) and East of Eden (2016).

David will discuss his views on the lack of diversity in the showbiz industry, particularly the lack of opportunities for Chinese actors in the British TV and theatre industry.

The veteran Chinese actor will also discuss his early life growing up in the British-Chinese community in Liverpool. He will discuss his family background, with his father being one of many Chinese sea merchants who came to the UK from Southern China and Hong Kong during World War II.

The talk is on Tuesday 2 February 18.45-20.00 at Asia House.
