在校生周末或暑期兼职是很普遍的现象, 很多来自中国的留学生会利用空闲时间去打工赚取额外的收入. 做兼职对于他们来说好处很多, 比如可以提高口语能力, 积累工作经验以及更深入地了解英国本土文化, 等等. 不过同学们别忽略了英国内政部允许持学生签证的人士每周合法工作时间的要求. 在英国, 内政部条例明确规定读本科(Degree Course)以下的国际学生是不允许兼职的. 因此 学习语言课程(English as Foreign Language), 中学中等教育课程(GCSE), 高中课程(A-LEVEL) 以及预科课程(Foundation Course)等, 学习这类课程的国际学生是不允许在英国兼职任何工作的. 也就是说, 只有学习大学本科或以上(包括硕士, 博士或博士后)等课程的国际学生才能合法在英打工. 并且内政部条例规定, 国际学生学期中每星期兼职的工时不能超过20个小时(不是年均下来每周20小时), 寒暑假期间也最多可以每星期工作40小时. 所以同学们不要贪图额外的零用钱去超时打工, 因为一旦被内政府查出后果往往很严重. 轻则发信警告且记录在案, 并要求打工超时者附上学校信, 已交全额学费的在校证明和出勤率等资料; 重则直接取消此人的有效签证, 要求其28天之内离境, 甚至连上诉的机会都不给. 无论如何, 这对以后的签证都产生了极大的影响. 有同学是因为没留意条例而不小心超了时违反了条例. 这就是本文撰写的目的, 为了提醒同学们在英国留学的时候, 做每一件事之前最好学习一下相关条例, 不懂的可以向学校的国际学生部询问. 但是千万不要以为可以避开内政部的调查. 就拿查你是否打工超时来说吧, 基本上所有的公司聘用员工时都要求其提供税号(National Insurance Number), 通过税号就可以查出工时. 同学们还是依照规定办事, 不要铤而走险, 导致影响学业, 功亏一篑.
