The Movie Hub and Weston Favell Shopping Centre celebrate Chinese New Year in collaboration with Northampton feature film Fortune Cookies

On Thursday 19th February, The Movie Hub and Weston Favell Shopping Centre will be running free animation workshops for young people with national charity Into Film. Young people and families can drop in between 11am and 4pm to produce animations on the theme of Chinese New Year. Professionals working with young people are also invited to hone their animation skills afterwards with Into Film at a special workshop.

The Movie Hub is currently being used to run workshops for young people from East Northampton on the Pre-Production of film-for-cinema Fortune Cookies.

Becky Adams, the film’s Producer, says, “Chinese New Year gives us an opportunity to invite the public into the Hub, show off our wonderful improvised film studio made possible by the generosity of Weston Favell Shopping Centre and tell people about the feature film we’re producing in the county.”

Feature film Fortune Cookies is a cross-cultural family comedy about a young girl struggling to balance her father’s desire to give her a traditional Chinese upbringing with her own ambition of becoming an actress. Fortune Cookies will be shot in Northamptonshire and at Elstree Studios starring Les Dennis (Coronation Street), Pik-Sen Lim (Johnny English Reborn), Ozzie Yue (Doctor Who) and Jenny Bede (BBC Comedy Feeds).

Between 4pm and 5pm, those working with young people can attend a free Into Film taster Continued Professional Development course ‘An Introduction to Stopmotion Animation’ to learn how to make use of these techniques in a classroom or youth club.
