Very often international politics is seen too much through the eyes of the West (namely US or UK/Europe).

In the interests of balance and in recognition of the rise of China and her taking a new role on the world stage, the Liberal International British Group (an associated organisation of the Liberal Democrats) have chosen the topic of ‘disputes in the South China sea’ to kick start their programme of discussions this year.

To comment on these developments, a panel of speakers including author Bill Hayton and an analyst from RUSI (Royal United Services Institute) and representatives from the Chinese and Philippine (tbc) embassies, will be involved with discussions. 

Organiser Merlene Emerson said:

“This topic is important because there are a number of countries involved in this dispute – from China to the various South East Asian countries and the US. We want to encourage people to come to this event and join in with tackling thorny world issues and be inspired with fresh thinking from the discussion. “
