The Conference on UK-China Twinned Cities provides an excellent opportunity to learn how twinning can be a channel for increasing trade and investment and help create new jobs for regional cities.

Authors Carl Carlstedt and Chris Georgiou will present their research findings that with the right local infrastructure and commitment from stakeholders, twinning can yield many benefits.

In an era of constrained public funding and crucial economic growth this conference draws upon firsthand research on four regional English municipalities and their twinned Chinese counterparts. As the British public and private sectors have reinforced their determination to economically succeed in China, Carlstedt and Georgiou will provide a thoroughly researched understanding of an often-overlooked platform for engaging with the notoriously challenging Chinese economy.

When gaining market-entry and attracting investment is paramount this report is innovative in two ways. It consolidates three decades of UK-China sub-national relations and explains the ideal strategy for business, academia and local government to make sure their city or region is ideally suited to benefit together with the world’s fastest growing economy.

Eminent speakers include Jeremy Browne MP, former Minister of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Claire Urry from CBBC and representatives from the Chinese Embassy and Local Government.

Network and share experiences as well as best practice with other delegates from different local authoriities, and from both Chinese and British companies.

A choice of sessions on topics ranging from “Forging Educational Links”, to “Finding the Right Partners” for practical ideas on how to overcome challenges to successful twinning.

The event has been jointly organised by Chinese Liberal Democrats and the School of Contemporary Chinese Studies of The Nottingham University and supported by China Britain Business Council.
