Singer Dingwei launches album with UK collaboration

Recorded at some of London’s most iconic studios, including the legendary Abbey Road and AIR, Dingwei’s new LP, Untied is a remarkable sonic progression from one of China’s most successful female singer/songwriters.

Featuring contributions from Suzanne Vega, who sings on an English version of Gypsy and Dominic Miller, the record marks a new chapter in an already astonishingly successful career and positions Dingwei as a truly original voice in Chinese pop music.

Dingwei is a remarkable figure in the Asian music scene. With a career spanning over fifteen years at the very forefront of the music business, she has received a series of high profile awards. Her 2004 release, Dear Ding Wei saw her achieve recognition from the 5th Pepsi Music Chart the CNR Music Radio Chinese Top Music Chart, the Dong Nan TV Hit Music Chart and Jiangsu Music Radio.

As well as a stellar recording career, full of landmark moments, Dingwei has also played a number of incredibly high profile live gigs. Her appearance at the 2008 Olympic Games was understandably monumental. She broke new ground by becoming the very first Chinese singer to appear at the Beijing International Jazz Festival and has also performed innovative sets at the Hong Kong New Vision Arts Festival and Macau International Music Festival.

Sonically, Untied, the title track of which will be available as an instant download when ordering the album, is a remarkable body of work. From the glitchy, electro pop of Not Enough Time and Gypsy, to more tender moments like the beautifully delicate Snow and Souvenir, each song on the record brings something uniquely individual. Crucial to achieving the sound perfected on the record was the multi Grammy Award winning production team of Dave Bascombe (Massive Attack), Haydn Bendall (Kate Bush) and Chris Brown (Radiohead and The Beatles).

Speaking about the importance of the album Dingwei explains:

This is probably the most important record of my career to date. The songs have been brewing in my mind for some time and I’m so happy they’re now being shared with the world. Needless to say, it was great to have some of the most amazing musicians, producers and engineers in the UK involved. And then for the legendary Suzanne Vega to collaborate on a track was a dream come true. I couldn’t be happier with the record.”

An undoubted triumph, Untied, set for release on the 23rd June, is the sound of an artist re-born and Dingwei’s finest collection yet.
