Chinese buyers have become the biggest single group of foreign investors in the UK residential property market, according to a report in the Financial Times.

International estate agents Knight Frank recorded: Chinese investors were responsible for 11% of the million plus transactions in the London property market of 2014, by far the biggest group outside UK investors, compared to 4% in 2012. In response to this, the agent has set up a China Desk, and so too have other market leading international estate agents such as Winkworth and Savills.

Another report from the China Daily Europe said: “Asian buyers accounted for 31 percent of investors in London’s newly built houses in 2011, compared with 14 percent in 1992.”

The phenomenon is not just restricted to the London, the Daily Mail reports on 4th April 2014, “In Birmingham, 30 per cent of flats in the prestige’s development, the Cube have been sold to Chinese investors.”

There are a lot of data that shows that Chinese investment in UK properties is growing fast. There is no question that the UK based developers and estate agents are keen to sell their properties to Chinese investors, but it’s often a hard market to access with a complex range of language, culture, social and economic differences to overcome.

With current market trends, a new UK based Chinese/English bilingual property website called soukproperty.com has been launched recently. The bilingual property portal focuses on marketing to Chinese investors. It provides the facility for real estate agents and developers to post properties for sale or to rent, directly to the Chinese speaking investors.

The Managing Director of So UK Property Irene Brimmell, originally from Taiwan and a former business journalist turned marketing executive, has worked and lived in China, Hong Kong and Singapore, she is familiar with all four main regions of Greater China.

She developed the idea of setting up this pioneering business when she was working for a Greek developer in their UK office. Irene was responsible for promoting their Greek developments through the agents in China. “However the Chinese agents in China are far keener to sell UK property than Greek property” she recalls. The agents kept asking for UK properties when she tried to promote the company’s Greek properties.

This has inspired her business idea, ”Why not set up a Chinese/English bilingual property website for the Chinese speaking investor?” Irene and her partner immediately spotted this new opportunity. They have lived in Asia for years and both have a deep understanding of Eastern culture and their purchasing habits.

At its new launch, So UK Property are offering a special promotional package for agents to try. They also offer sales assistance and property management services to help agents and developers.
