Oral History Interviews – The British Chinese Armed Forces Heritage Project

Do you know any Chinese ex-servicemen and women who served in the British Armed Forces?

The British Chinese Armed Forces Heritage Project is a partnership project collaborating with Ming-Ai (London) Institute and Regent’s University London. This four-year project focuses on the exploration of the forgotten history of the British Chinese Armed Forces.

The primary aim of the project is to collect 40 oral history interviews with British Chinese ex-servicemen and women to create a historical archive, which would then be the basis for the generation of a series of community-related initiatives. The project team have been working closely alongside veteran associations in Hong Kong, and will be putting up two exhibitions to showcase the importance and the significant contributions of the Chinese who served in the British Armed Forces.

These will take place in 2017 with one exhibition in Hong Kong and one in London.

The project team have finished seven oral history interviews and are under the process of collecting more materials for the project.

They are currently looking for Chinese ex-service men and their descendants or those that have contact with Chinese ex-service men who either served in Hong Kong or abroad under the British Armed Forces. The project team is currently looking for 33 potential interviewees to complete their project.
