City in UK Spotlight –  Bristol 

Bristol businesses heard how individual relationships being forged with China are helping to unlock trade opportunities at a sold-out Pow Wow event, organised by the Bristol & West of England China Bureau.

Bristol North West MP Charlotte Leslie told the gathering: “Although Governments need to do their part it is the relationships forged between individual people and individual businesses that really matter and which get the deals done.

“That is why we are fortunate in the South West to have so many people who are getting involved with China and doing business across the world.

China needs some of our expertise and there are great opportunities for mutual benefit. On my last visit there I found the Communist Party very open and positive towards the UK.”

The event was hosted by Grant Thornton and enabled businesses with an interest in China to meet and network together.

The next Pow Wow is at The Watershed, Bristol on Tuesday June 28 2016 which will be attended by HM Consul-General Matthew Rous, who leads the British Government’s engagement in Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan and Jiangxi.

He will be sharing his latest insights with businesses at the event, sponsored by the University of the West of England.

The Consul General represents the UK government and is responsible for consular, visa and  trade activities in the region.
