Manchester’s Dragon Boat Festival will take place on the 1st June 2014. The Dragon Boat Race is a fun and a highly effective way to encourage team building. It is an opportunity to share Chinese culture in the UK and to commemorate the important historical Duan Wu Festival on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month of the Chinese calendar. The event will be attended by the Consul General, 4 local Mayors, MPs and various other key leaders from the Chinese community.

Organiser Xinhua Chinese Association was established in Manchester in 2004. The association represents a new generation of Chinese people. Most of the XCA’s members originally came to the UK for academic reasons, later settling as professionals.

The Race

Both men and women can compete on equal footing.

Each Dragon boat will hold a maximum of eleven team members (ten paddlers and a drummer – we must have a drummer), and a boat instructor provided by the organisers who steers the boat.

Each Dragon Boat team will have three races and the single best time is then used to qualify the fastest teams into the final round where by 6 teams compete.
