The highly respected entrepreneur Mr Stanley Tse has received the GG2 World Food Award at the annual GG2 Leadership Awards on Wednesday 21st October.

In recognition of the incredible and often under-stated importance and success of the Chinese community in the UK, Stanley Tse, Chairman of SeeWoo Foods Limited received the World Food Award.

Born in 1943 in Yuen Long village in the New Territories, Hong Kong and one of three brothers, Stanley was the middle child and attended the local village school in Yuen Long. Due to sad personal circumstances, Stanley was forced to leave school before completing his studies, to work and help support his family. Despite his disadvantaged childhood, Stanley was both ambitious and determined and wanted to travel abroad to give himself the opportunity of earning a better living to help support his family.

Arriving in the UK in 1961, he started his career in the food industry by working in a local Chinese restaurant. Over the past 50 years, Stanley has worked tirelessly not only to provide the Chinese community with his quality ingredients and products through his chain of SeeWoo stores, but also through his immense charity work.

Stanley’s enormous achievement is inspirational. Without the benefits of a sound education and with no financial security when he first arrived in the UK, Stanley is truly a self-built success story. His positive and professional attitude and keen eye for detail is evident in the success of the businesses he runs today.

The GG2 Power 101, features the top 101 most influential Asians in the UK, ranging from all walks of life. Now in its fifth year, the list honours some notable British Asians who hold power and influence not just in Britain, but also globally. 

Business Secretary, The Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP, has been revealed as the UK’s most influential south Asian for the second year running, in the GG2 Power 101, the annual listing of the 101 most powerful Asians in the UK, which was launched at the GG2 Leadership Awards dinner in London last night in the presence of chief guest Rt. Hon. Michael Gove, Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice.

Speaking of his top position in the list, Javid commented:

This year, I’d like to dedicate this award to the next generation, the younger generation. Young British Asians that have achieved so much in every walk of British life, whether that’s politics, business, culture, arts or sports.”

Sajid Javid MP, the Secretary of State for Business and Skills, is working his way up the political ladder to potentially become the country’s first Asian Prime Minister. The son of a bus driver, he was born in Rochdale and grew up in Bristol. A determined young man, Javid had a hugely successful career in banking and only joined the political scene in 2010 – a meteoric rise in such a short space of time. At the GG2 Leadership Awards last year, Prime Minister David Cameron, who was the chief guest, said he would one day like to see an Asian prime minister. Could Javid be the man he has in mind? Javid appears to be a real contender for the top job, although he may have to wait for Mr Osborne to take his turn first.

This year’s list also sees the Rt Hon Priti Patel climb further up the list to the number 3 position – officially making her the most powerful Asian woman in the country and making this the first ever Cabinet attended by two second generation south Asians. Not one to be left behind, London Mayoral hopeful Sadiq Khan MP is waving the flag for the Labour Party in 6^th position this year.

The top ten of the GG2 Power 101 alone sees some distinguished names across different sectors – including media and entertainment and business, as well as two Nobel Prize Winners. Sir Venkatraman Ramakrishnan (Sir Venky) who has received a Nobel Prize for Chemistry, jumps an incredible 47 places to number 5 on the list. Earlier this year Sir Venky as he likes to be known, was elected president of the Royal Society, the first Indian to hold this post in 350 years.

The second Nobel winner is the inspiring young activist Malala Yousafzai, who celebrates the launch of her forthcoming documentary ‘He Named Me Malala’ next month and at just 18 years old, remains the youngest entry on the list.
