The China National Peking Opera Company will return to London

The China National Peking Opera Company will return to London to the Peacock Theatre from 13 – 15 October with a double bill of The General and the Prime Minister and The Legend of the White Snake. The returning visit is part of the Company’s 2016 international tour and a proud part of the Sadler’s Wells ‘Out of Asia 2’ season.

“China National Opera Company’s very first UK performance took place in 2005. Last year, invited by Sinolink Productions, we returned to this graceful country after 10 years away to bring two masterpieces to the British audiences. The show was a huge hit with British audiences as well as vast Chinese community opera fans. To be encouraged by the huge success of last year performance, Sinolink Productions decided to invite us again to perform in the UK and we have accepted the invitation and we have even decided to make UK performances a long term project to bring the best pieces of Chinese opera to the UK audiences every year.”

Esteemed Peking Opera stars Mr Yu Kuizhi and Ms Li Shengsu, who both performed in London in The Warrior Women of Yang and Farewell My Concubine respectively in 2015, will return with the Company. An exciting addition to the cast is Yang Chi, China’s most famous painted face role actor.

The Company performed The Legend of the White Snake in the UK in 2005 to critical acclaim, and the China National Peking Opera Company look forward to bringing back the piece following their own critically successful return to the capital in November last year.
