The World Tourism Organisation recently revealed that China is the fastest-growing tourism source market in the world, with Chinese travellers increasing from 10 million in 2000 to 83 million in 2012. Expenditure by Chinese tourists abroad has also increased almost eightfold. Due to this increasing demand, London Hilton on Park Lane has been implementing initiatives such as installing a new credit card terminal that takes Unionpay Chinese credit cards – very few places offer this service, so it’s great for Chinese travellers.
In 2005 China ranked seventh in international tourism expenditure, and has since successively overtaken Italy, Japan, France and the United Kingdom. Chinas expenditure on travel abroad reached US$ 102 billion in 2012, making it the first tourism source market in the world in terms of spending.
With outbound tourism from China growing exponentially, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, the flagship brand of Hilton Worldwide, offers Hilton Huanying, a tailored experience for Chinese travellers. Hilton Huanying takes its name from the Chinese word for “welcome,” and extends authentic experiences with amenities, service standards and dedicated Hilton team member training.
The program debuted August 16, 2011 with 30 participating properties in 13 countries. Currently there are 85 participating properties in 27 countries that encompass many destinations popular among Chinese visitors including San Francisco, New York City, Hawaii, Vancouver, London, Tokyo and Sydney. Hilton conducted comprehensive research to determine preferences and needs of contemporary travellers of Chinese origin from throughout the world. The program is backed by the Hilton brand’s extensive field research and more than two decades of hospitality leadership in China. Chinese travellers will find familiar comforts in three key touch points of the on-property experience (arrival, guest room and Breakfast at Hilton). Initially launched by Hilton Hotels & Resorts, this program is available for all Hilton Worldwide hotels prepared to deliver the Hilton Huanying service standards.
