Set in the heart of the East End of London. Meet the eccentric Li family as we follow the trials and tribulations of running an authentic, family-owned takeaway business.

Meet BRUCE, he’s your cool and typical everyday Londoner or so he thinks. His fierce and fiery mother YUET, often known as “Tiger Mom”, is a force to be reckoned with. His flamboyant father CHONG is the life and soul of the party and his younger sister MEI MEI is innocent by age but mischievous by nature.

Together they are the Li’s, an unconventional British family running a takeaway business in Hackney. They’re joined by JASON, the self-proclaimed ‘Transportation Logistic Officer’ or in other words, the delivery man. After nearly two years of applying, Bruce finally gets accepted into university – something his parents have always wanted for him.

Bruce decides that the resulting family celebrations are the perfect opportunity to announce that he has a girlfriend, RACHEL. But will his traditional parents approve? There’s only one way to find out. Close the takeaway early, invite her over and have a big authentic dinner party! And as if that’s not enough to deal with for one night, there’s trouble looming with the rival takeaway down the road . . .

Bruce’s life story. The show is loosely based on the real life account of his upbringing in an authentic family-owned takeaway business in the heart of East London, Hackney. It portrays life inside a takeaway, highlighting cultural challenges and relationships with those around him.Being raised by traditional parents in modern day society made for plenty of comedic situations.

Bruce and Chris first worked together in 2013 on the award-winning short film Handuken for Virgin Media Shorts (VMShorts) – ‘the UK’s biggest short film competition’. Handuken was one of only 12 films shortlisted from over 800 entries to VMshorts. Following the competition, it was distributed to cinemas nationwide, and screened in Los Angeles and New York. Through the success of Handuken, together with Chris’s captivating storytelling and Bruce’s unique life story, they continued to collaborate together and started to develop Wok
