UK Healthcare firms share growth stories of £12 billion China export opportunities

Healthcare businesses in the West of England will learn first-hand how they can export their expertise to China in a special event to be held in Bristol in May.

Some £12 Billion of healthcare deals with the UK are in the pipeline and to support the region’s businesses the Bristol & West of England China Bureau is organising a morning forum on Thursday May 12. The event is being backed by the Institute of Directors, Healthcare UK and HSBC and is aimed at directors of businesses who want to learn more about the opportunities on offer.

Those attending will hear from businesses already benefitting from links with China, such as Phynova, a life science company that develops proprietary natural healthcare products from active compounds found in plants.

Phynova Executive vice-president Hongwen Yue, who will be speaking at the event, said: “Healthcare has been at the forefront of UK and Chinese collaboration for a long time. Recent developments in Chinese healthcare have shown strong initiatives emanating from both the Government and the private sector.

“These initiatives look to enhance the industry’s R&D capabilities, which represent great trading and investment opportunities for UK life sciences companies.  China is at the forefront of FDI into the UK, with life sciences in particular benefiting, which has helped provide Phynova with the capital it needs to accelerate its growth plans.

“We value our strong affiliation with China and we have long been cooperating with Chinese companies to develop and commercialise healthcare products. In addition, the Company has recently secured a strategic partnership with a multibillion dollar company, Xiangxue Pharmaceuticals, which has enabled Phynova to expand its capabilities significantly. We very much look forward to sharing our experiences with our counterparts in the UK on how to best leverage Chinese relationships for future growth in the life sciences sector.”

Richard Lowe, Director of Business Initiatives at the Bristol & West of England China Bureau said: “As well as life sciences the event is for public, private and charitable organisations of any size, including those offering products, services and education and digital systems related to hospital, primary, elderly and palliative care. Some examples of firms already engaged include architects and designers, hospital and care home operators, Universities and training companies and digital monitoring, record and analysis providers.”

Other Speakers at the event will include Ben Whitlock, HSBC Global Trade & Receivables Finance Senior International Business Manager; David Pinchard, Managing Director of Transformation Leaders; Chris Born from Healthcare UK; Executive and Jeremy Nixey, Chief Executive Officer of Shaw Healthcare.

The event, which will be held at HSBC in Temple Quay, Bristol is by invitation so Directors of Healthcare organisations wishing to secure a place should email [email protected].
