THE best badminton players in the world will be heading to Scotland this August to compete in the TOTAL BWF World Championships 2017 in Glasgow.

China’s Chen Long, the reigning Olympic and double World Champion, will lead the challenge at the stunning Emirates Arena from August 21-27 as he looks to complete a hat-trick of world titles to go with his gold medal from the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Malaysia’s world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei, who lost in his third Olympic final in Rio, has even postponed his retirement plans to make one last bid to win an elusive World title and he will be among Chen Long’s main rivals in Glasgow as he looks to avenge his Rio defeat.

Spain’s Carolina Marin, who like Chen Long is bidding for a World Championship hat-trick to go with her Olympic gold, will face fierce competition as she defends her women’s singles title. China’s new star Sun Yu will be among the players lining up to stop Marin with Chinese Taipei’s world No. 1  Tai Tzu Ying, Thailand’s 2013 World Champion Ratchanok Intanon and India’s Saina Nehwal and Pusarla V Sindhu posing threats as well.

Chai Biao and Hong Wei are up to No. 3 in the world and will lead China’s men’s doubles challenge while Luo Ying and Luo Yu and Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan will be in women’s doubles contention.

In mixed doubles all eyes will be on Chen and her partner Zheng Siwei to see if they can follow in the footsteps of 2014 and 2015 winners Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei.

It’s set to be a fabulous sporting experience – and the Emirates Arena is the perfect venue for badminton, having showcased the sport at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
