The deadline has passed and the votes are in! Nee Hao’s karaoke competition, which we ran over the summer, was a great success and we received a number of brilliant entries from within the British Chinese and East Asian community. And now we are pleased to announce the top 3 contestants who received the most number of likes (please note all the previous votes in the different voting system we used earlier in the competition have all be adjusted and accounted for):

1st Place

Meikee Hui (27) and Freddie Li (28) from Glasgow, who did a creative acoustic mashup cover of Everything Burns by Anastacia featuring Ben Moody and Break My Heart by boy band Blue have taken the top prize, which includes £225, a professionally shot music video and the chance to perform at the next Nee Hao event in front of hundreds of people! Congrats, you two!

2nd Place

Keith Li from Chester, who performed the Cantonese song蚂蚁 by 许廷铿 (Alfred Hui) came in at a close second place and wins £50. Well done, Keith!

3rd Place

Chloe Kwok was hot on the heels! The 17-year-old from London, makes up the final place in the top 3, singing the American starlet’s song Almost is Never Enough, winning £25.

Other contestants 

Chi Nim Yau (26) from Kent sang a soft yet emotional version of 因为爱所以爱 谢霆锋 (Nicholas Tse) and rounds up the forth spot.

Londoner Ich Loc – who came in joint 5th place with, has his home studio, so is obviously no stranger to recording his own music – performed 江南 by 林俊杰 (JJ Lin).

Many people, both professionals such as Jessie J and Ed Sheeran as well as amateurs, have recently covered Sam Smith’s hit song Stay With Me. Here’s17-year-old Chi Zhao from Portsmouth taking it on for the competition.

Big-haired and big-voiced David Shek from Dundee gave us a charming performance of Everything by Michael Bublé.

Thomas Lai, 33, from Portsmouth performed 爱最大 by Nicholas Tse, which included him rapping.

19-year-old BoBo Lai from Portsmouth put her sweet voice to good use singing 宝贝 by 张悬.

Ling Lee from Northampton shows off both her rapping and singing skills in this cover of the multilingual (Cantonese, Mandarin and English) song 乜野系恋爱 by MP4, featuring 张茵.

Who watched The X Factor last year? Leicester-based Justin Peng wowed the judges at his room audition when he bravely took on Whitney Houston’s I Look to You. Here is the 18-year-old singing Eminem’s Love the Way You Lie, featuring Rihanna whilst also showing off his great piano playing skills at the same time.

Patrick Lee and Crystal Leung sang a beautifully haunting acoustic, soft rock version of Lights by Ellie Goulding.

The lovely Tiffany Pang from Birmingham performed Clean Bandit’s smash hit song Rather Be. We love her strong and charismatic voice!

Kenny Lo, 24 from Birmingham, sings 红日 by Hacken Lee.

29-year-old Kap Lee from Dorset sang Said Goodbye (说了再见) by popular Taiwanese artist Jay Chou.

Christine and Huong from London teamed up together to have fun singing the classic song 朋友 by 周华健 (Emil Chau). A good attempt, girls, but perhaps learn the words beforehand!
